Nina's High Rollers: ALS Association - Walk to Defeat ALS, March 20th, 2021

Hello Mattauker1.,

This year, the Nina’s High Rollers team will walk in memory of my late wife, our friend and Comfort Keepers - Altamonte Springs, FL co-founder, Nina Lamanno-Auker. She lost her 4 ½ year battle with ALS almost 8 years ago in September, 2013.

The ALS Association is having the annual Walk to Defeat ALS / Lou Gehrig's Disease on March 20th, 2021. You can go to the ALS Website to learn more about this terrible disease and how the funds raised will be used.

Due to Covid-19, the “Walk” is really a “Car Ride / Parade”.

Go here to register to join the team (which will save you time checking in on Walk Day) or to donate in the name of a team member: Nina's High Rollers Team Page

We will be meeting at the parade starting site Lake Highland Park 1132 Lake Highland Drive, Orlando, FL 32803 and we will drive about 1 mile around Lake Highland. There is plenty of free on-the- street parking along side the lake on Lake Highland Drive between Ferris Ave and Highland Ave.

I will be at the parade starting site at 7:00 am, Walk Check-In starts at 9:00 am and the Walk Start time is 11:00 am.

We would appreciate any donation that you could give to The ALS Association. You can donate in my name online at the link below or print the form available online at the link below and use it for mail in donations.

Thank you for opening and reading this email and hopefully we will see you on March 20th!

Respectfully,
Matt Auker

Nina Lamanno - Auker: She is Why We All Walk at Lake Eola, Downtown Orlando on Saturday, March 18th, 2017

®

Dear Mattauker1.,

First of all, I want to everyone who has walked in any of the walks or made a donation since 2009, the first year we participated in the ALS Walk. Thank you so much for participating in previous years! I really appreciate all you have done in the past to raise funds to help defeat this terrible disease that claimed the life of my wife, my children's mother and your friend - Nina Lamanno-Auker. She lost her battle with ALS on September 7, 2013, five days before her 56th birthday.

It's time to get ready to walk again in her honor. The walk is at Lake Eola in downtown Orlando, Saturday March 18th.

My ALS website (at the bottom of this page or copy and paste:  http://web.alsa.org/goto/mattauker2017) makes it easy to donate to the ALS Association....please consider any donation, any amount helps....Thank You!

One more thing, for the third year, my company, Comfort Keepers - Altamonte Springs, is a corporate sponsor of the Orlando ALS Walk.

The Children Need You! FTK

Hi my name is Tyler Auker and I am the Dance Marathon representative for my fraternity, Sigma Chi, at the University of Florida. Dance Marathon is a 26.2 hour long event and it is all in support of the Children's Miracle Network.

Each year more than 800 students stay awake and on their feet for the entire 26.2 hours to raise money and awareness for CMN.

This is the first year that Sigma Chi has ever participated in Dance Marathon and we need your help! In order to have our members participate in the 26.2 hour long main event my fraternity must raise enough money to sponsor these individuals. Donations of any and all sizes will help. All of these donations go strait to the hospitals and toward helping children in need. Just remember, it's For The Kids, or FTK as we like to say. We appreciate your support!!! My personal page for donations can be found below.

For all the right reasons,

Tyler Auker

Support Nina Lamanno - Auker and Matt Auker - ALS Walk - Orlando - Friday, April 16th

First of all, I apologize if you have received more than one email from me about our upcoming walk to raise funds for the ALS Association.

You are receiving this email for one or more of several reasons:

* You are a friend or a family member of Nina Lamanno-Auker or Matt Auker

* You have done business with or know Comfort Keepers of Altamonte Springs

* You know either Nina or Matt from: Spring Valley, St. Mary Magdalen, Florida Hospital, Central Florida Regional Hospital, Porter Paints, Louisville, Orlando, Davidson College, USF, Bishop Moore Catholic High School or UCF.

ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease and Nina, my lovely wife of 24 1/2 years has it.  There is no cure. No one knows why an ALS patient's nerves die and their muscles atrophy.  Some people live 20 years with ALS, others are gone within a year of diagnosis.  There is only 1 medication that is approved for treating ALS and it is estimated that it lengthens the life of the ALS patient by about 3 months.  5,000 people a year in the US are diagnosed with ALS and about 30,000 people have it right now.

You can read more about Nina on my personal page at:  web.alsa.org/goto/mauker

I am walking with many of Nina's friends in the ALS Walk on Friday night, April 16th around Lake Eola in downtown Orlando.  Last April, about 200 friends of Nina’s gathered for the 2009 ALS Orlando walk.  You can see some of the pictures here: picasaweb.google.com/mattauker/ALSWalkOrlando2009?feat=directlink.     Dave Wheeler at Bishop Moore Catholic High School even rescheduled a varsity baseball game so that there wouldn’t be any conflicts for many of our friends.  Our son Tyler plays on the varsity baseball team at Bishop Moore.

I am asking for your help!

Sign up to walk with me on April 16th.  You can click on the NINA’S HIGH ROLLERS link below.  If you sign up, we ask that you raise $ 25 in donations from other people to sponsor your walk. If you walked last year, please wear your teal NINA’S HIGH ROLLERS t-shirt.  If you need a t-shirt contact me or Cynthia Dades and we’ll make sure you get one.

** If you can't walk, sponsor me by clicking on my personal page below or sponsor any of the other walkers signed up to walk on the NINA’S HIGH ROLLERS team. Please understand that any size donation is very much appreciated.

** My ALS personal page is set up to accept credit card donations.  If you’d rather donate using a check, make it payable to The ALS Association Florida Chapter  and mail the check to:

Doing what it takes!

Tonight, we needed an employee to go to a new client's home. The caregiver had never been there before and, even though it was less than 4 miles from her home, she did not know how to get there and did not think that she would be able to find the home after dark. Of course, I said I would get her there. So, I attended my daughter's high school varsity volleyball game for about 23 minutes and then left to get our caregiver to our client's home.

I went to the caregiver's home and had her follow me to the client's home. Because of the way we arrived and the position of the house, I drove past the client's home, went to the corner and made a u-turn, drove about 200 yards and then parked in front of the house. Up to the time of the u-turn, my employee was right behind me, she saw me make the u-turn.

Well, I stood next to my car waiting for my employee to park behind me. After about 5 minutes, I drove back to the spot I made the u-turn and found my employee, on the phone crying to my scheduling coordinator about me leaving her in the middle of the street.

Needless to say, I couldn't understand all of this; how could she loose me so easily? Oh well, all is well, the caregiver is at our client's home and I'm home now.
